Counselling/Therapy Services

When people seek counselling support it’s usually because things aren’t going as well as they hoped, or something has happened that needs support beyond what they feel they can manage on their own. Understandably this means people might be a bit nervous about starting counselling. I aim to provide a safe and comfortable counselling space in which you can begin to explore and look at what you wish to. I work at your pace and check in to make sure the counselling work is useful, makes sense and fits for you.

In our work together I hope you will be able to find connection, a deeper understanding and appreciation of yourself, your skills and an increased sense of ability to be with life as it unfolds.

On occasion it may be helpful to access other services alongside counselling. I am happy to facilitate referrals and to work with people engaged with other professionals for their optimum care and with consent.

My practice is LGBTQIA friendly. I am committed to the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi.

Counselling/Therapy Approach

My counselling practice is underpinned by principles of Narrative therapy, is trauma informed and person-centred. I provide some psychoeducation regarding trauma where appropriate and draw from Arts Therapy, CBT, DBT and sensorimotor approaches where helpful.

Background and Experience

I worked as a social worker/advocate in the field of Family Harm from 2002-2008 before joining HELP Auckland in 2008, a leading service in sexual abuse care. During my years with HELP as a counsellor, I provided crisis support for adults and adolescents and both short and long-term counselling for young people aged 13 years+. I continued my passion for trauma informed counselling in 2016 in Inverness, Scotland with the then newly formed Rape and Sexual Abuse Service Highland. I have experience in sexual harm prevention work and have experience in brief intervention telephone counselling.

Supervision Services

I provide group and individual supervision for Sexual Harm Crisis Support workers. Individual supervision available for those working in Sexual Harm Prevention and/ or sexual harm crisis work who do not require a full member of NZAC or NZSWB.
