Gaayathri Nair

Counsellor & Family Therapist

I am not currently accepting new ACC clients.

How do I work?

My approach to counselling focuses on us working together as a team to create a life in which you are thriving. Sometimes the process of counselling can be uncomfortable as it requires us to face up to realities in our lives which can cause us pain. However, you have many skills, competencies, beliefs, values, commitments and abilities that will allow you to face these challenges,  and we will discover how to make the best use of them together. My stance is always compassionate, non-judgemental and boundaried. Working with me usually includes exercises and homework to be done between sessions in order to implement the skills and strategies we discuss.

What is my experience?

I was trained in narrative therapy, and this foundation has always underpinned my work. I have had a worked extensively with people who have experienced all forms of trauma and have incorporated into my practice types of therapy that focus on rebuilding the connection between brain and body which often gets lost when we have been through hard times.

Who do I work with?

I work with individuals, couples, families and young people.  I work with adults, couples, families and young people. I do not work with children under the age of 12 without also working with the family.

I am experienced in working with people who (in no particular order):

  • Have experienced trauma of any kind
  • Are LGBTQIA+
  • Are coming to terms with their gender identity at any age or stage
  • Are in or contemplating less conventional relationship structures (e.g. polyamory)
  • People who are experiencing depression; people who are experiencing any kind of anxiety including OCD
  • People on the autism spectrum
  • People who are struggling to manage with ADHD
  • People who would like to address issues related to their sexual behaviour

I am interested in working more with clients who are experiencing chronic pain.
