Professional Counselling & Therapy

Are you currently filling your life with days but would rather fill your days with life?

  • Not feeling good about yourself?
  • Feeling down, worried or isolated?
  • Having difficulty sleeping or becoming easily angered?
  • Suffering from low self-esteem, worth or anxiety?

Who am I?

I am a first generation born New Zealander of Indian descent; my parents are originally from a state called Gujarat. Having lived in two worldviews my whole life I can fully appreciate the strengths associated with this and difficulties it can pose. I am a mother of two children and in my spare time I enjoy watching movies, baking and socialising with family and friends.

Background

I completed a Bachelors degree in Psychology with Honours in 1997 from Victoria University of Wellington and a Diploma in Counselling (Applied) in 2003 from the Wellington Institute of Technology. I have worked with adults, young adults and children (6-12yrs) of all cultures, in a variety of settings over many years, including Education (School and University), Community and Health (District Health Board).

I work with a range of issues, including:

  • anxiety
  • depression
  • post natal depression
  • low self esteem
  • self discovery
  • anger
  • grief
  • relationship conflict

How I work?

I like to spend our first session discussing your concerns and what you hope to get out of therapy; this will allow me to get a good understanding of your needs and your strengths.

I believe each individual is unique, so I draw on a number of different theoretical models and employ a variety of therapeutic methodologies throughout my sessions to best suit your needs.

I like to work collaboratively, as your input and effort is vital to your recovery. I may suggest brief homework exercises in between sessions to help find the triggers associated with your concerns and areas which need to be worked on while also embracing and encouraging your strengths.

Cultural Supervision

I can be available for cultural supervision or consult for healthcare professionals working with Indian people.
