Hi, I'm Iain.

Based in Bucklands Beach East Auckland, I offer a counselling service tailored to you that is warm, relaxed, responsive and safe.

I will support you to achieve the clarity you seek to make the changes you need.

My counselling is underpinned by person centred theory. This means drawing on your existing strengths, being attuned to your needs and experiences, and ultimately, trusting your capacity to change, adapt and grow. The therapy process is collaborative and respectful of diversity of culture, sexual orientation, gender orientation and socio-economic background. I incorporate processes and interventions from other therapeutic modalities such as:
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
  • Psychodynamic and Gestalt Therapy.
I employ creative non-verbal approaches and skills depending on your needs, presenting issues and stage of development.
I will provide a sensitive, comfortable and non-judgemental environment where you feel listened to and can explore whatever issues are present for you.

I am ACC registered to provide counselling for anyone (age 12 and above) who has experienced sexual abuse or sexual assault whether recent or in the distant past.

I work with clients of all ages (over 12 years old) with a wide range human issues and experiences – anxiety, depression, trauma, sex and relationship issues, abuse, anger, addiction, (co) dependency, identity issues, change, loss and grief, life transitions and adjustment issues.

If you are wondering if I can assist you, please call me to discuss what I do and we can get to know if the fit is right between us.

I provide supervision to mental health/health professionals. I believe that supervision should support the development of clinical practice and also provide space to increase practitioner awareness of process issues and unconscious dynamics that may be present in client work and organisational relationships.

My supervision approach is collaborative and builds on the supervisee’s current learning, experience and sense of professional identity.

I have a particular passion for supervising school counsellors having worked for some time in secondary schools and I can be available to in a consultation capacity around school-based wellbeing programmes, pastoral systems and processes.

Get in touch to enquire about supervision services or availability.
