Areas of Special Interest
Gestalt Psychotherapist, EMDR.
People have an innate capacity to heal and to grow. Challenging experiences such as trauma, loss, family difficulties or illness can inhibit this natural movement. Early strategies for coping can also turn into unhealthy patterns which may manifest in distressing ways such as relationship problems, addictions, chronic pain and depression. Therapy from this perspective is about exploring what has happened in our histories; how our brains, bodies and beings have learned to adapt, bend and change to accommodate these circumstances. The therapeutic relationship seeks to support a connection with our authentic core. From this place, people can begin to make intentional choices that best serve their lives and relationships in the present moment.
Psychotherapy is about looking at your life with the support and assistance of another person. As a gestalt psychotherapist, I’m interested in what is happening in your bodily experience, being experimental, creative and playful at times as we explore your personal process. We might look at what has happened in your background, what is happening in your life outside the therapy room and also how we relate with each other inside the therapy room. The aim of therapy is to increase your awareness of unconscious factors that may be influencing your life, including past hurts, giving you opportunities to work through that which has been unfinished or stuck and to make contact with the possibilities that are here and now.
