Prompt Friendly Help

I am always happy to help, whether it’s for specific queries, resizing images, or to load the whole thing for you.

Once you have an account, you can use these help tips when you first create your Counsellor Listing.

You will need a separate Listing for EACH LOCATION you work in (bit of a pain but it’s how the map system works).

Your Listing WILL NOT BE LIVE until we publish it. So, let us know when you’re ready and we’ll make it live so you can start attracting clients.

Now you can create your Listings

  • once signed in click on the + ADD LISTING at the top right.
  • choose the COUNSELLOR PROFILE option
  • NB: if you work in multiple locations you will need to create a Listing for EACH LOCATION
  • Listings for up to 4 locations are included in the annual fee.

SAVE as you go

  • there is a SAVE button at the bottom of the page
  • it’s a good idea to save as you go rather than waiting until you’ve entered everything, note that it won’t save until you have entered your Title and selected the Category (see below)
  • after you click SAVE it will take you to the PREVIEW screen, to return to the editor, click the BLUE EDIT button at the bottom of the screen
  • each time you UPDATE you will be taken to the PREVIEW screen
  • your Listing WILL NOT BE LIVE until we publish it. Let us know when you’re ready and we’ll make it live.
  •  you will still be able to use the editor to make changes when your Listing is live.

Listing Title & Tagline

  • the Title & Taglines show on the Directory results pages and your Listing
  • they can be changed anytime
  • the Tagline is optional
  • you might keep the Tagline as simple as Counsellor, or put in your business name eg. Mt Eden Psychotherapy and Family Counselling or to say something to connect with potential clients eg. Bring inner peace and balance back into your life.

Full Address

  • if you only work online, leave the address blank
  • the address you enter puts your pin on the map
  • start typing your address, if a drop-down list appears select the address that matches yours, if a list doesn’t drop-down just type in your address
  • you don’t have to put in your full address, if you only put in a street/suburb/town the system will put your map pin in what it thinks is the middle of the street/suburb/town

City

  • these are used by the filter system when visitors want to select counsellors by location
  • select your closest city/town/suburb from the drop-down list
  • this list is a work in progress, so if you can’t find your location let us know and we’ll add it
  • if you work in multiple locations ONLY select the city/town/suburb relevant to THIS Listing or it will distort the map

Phone

  • enter the phone number you want clients to use
  • leave the box blank if you don’t want clients to phone you

Website

  • if you want a link to your website enter the address here

Category

  • this is a required field, and your Listing will not save until you choose a Listing Category
  • select Counsellors to List on the Find a Counsellor Directory

Select Your Search Filters

  • When visitors click on REFINE YOUR SEARCH a window opens with options for them to select by: client type, funding possibilities, profession, language, issues and types of therapy.
  • These work in conjunction with selections they’ve made for location and/or online sessions.

  • select the type of social media
  • enter the address
  • save it by clicking the BLUE + button

Frequently Asked Questions

  • FAQs are a good place to put practical information that you don’t want to clutter up your general description
  • you can add whatever FAQs suit you, some suggestions are Registrations & Memberships, Qualifications, Languages, Appointments, Fees, Cancellations you can use these headings or make up your own
  • I will add a FAQ for Registrations and Memberships to all Listings to assure visitors you are a qualified professional who belongs to an overseeing professional body (check here to see if you are eligible to list as a counsellor on Talkingworks)

Description

  • this is a required field, and your Listing will not save until you add some text here
  • you can use the basic editor to format your text, if you have any problems let me know I am happy to tidy it up for you
  • if you hover over the grey triangle in the bottom right corner and drag it you can make the editing box bigger for easier use
  • Heading 3 will give you a BLUE heading in the published page, but it will still look black in the editor itself
  • unless you are targeting very sophisticated clients it’s best to keep your text jargon free (get a friend who isn’t a counsellor to check it)
  • a list of issues might seem boring but potential clients do want to know that you help people with the problem they think they have
  • most potential clients want to find out what will be the benefits of seeing you, what will change in their inner and outer worlds
  • try not to use text from an assignment or assessment you’ve written, potential clients are unlikely to connect with it
  • again, you can change this text anytime, so you don’t have to get it perfect, just good enough!

Video

  • you can add a link to a video in this box
  • videos can be a great way to connect to potential clients
  • they don’t have to be professionally made, try creating one on your phone, it just needs to be a good resolution and have clear audio
  • keep them short, 1-3 minutes is generally recommended for a website

Images

  • these images will show in the gallery at the top of your Listing
  • images will work best if they are 245px wide by 270px high
  • if you don’t know how to crop and resize your images feel free to send me the originals I’m happy to do it for you
  • you can add as many images as you like, but be aware that not many people take the time to scroll through a slide show so put your best 3 first
