Counselling Psychologist

Therapy services

I am a registered counselling psychologist, which means I use evidence-based therapeutic approaches, combined with an appreciation of the contextual and cultural pressures impacting the unique challenges of your life. I will take a strengths-based view as we work collaboratively towards your goals, and support you to not only survive but thrive as you face life’s daily challenges. My focus is to create a warm, compassionate, safe space for you to explore your life, values and challenges.

During our sessions I will help you develop a compassionate stance towards yourself, be present and engaged in your life, and stay connected to what matters most, even when things are difficult.

I also see couples and along with the aspects I’ve already described, I will support you as a couple to improve your communication, increase equality and compassion in your relationship, and learn new ways to resolve difficulties.

Along with all other anxiety presentations, I also have a strong interest in eco-anxiety as the growing climate crisis causes more and more people to become worried about the future. If these issues are causing you additional distress, I am able to relate and support you with this.

You are welcome to see me at my practice (two minutes from St Lukes Mall) or we can arrange a video call.

Therapy approach

I will tailor our sessions to meet your specific needs, drawing mainly  from the therapeutic approaches of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). Therapy sessions can also include simple mindfulness and meditation techniques as well as self-compassion practices.

Background

I am a registered psychologist practicing in the counselling psychology scope. I work part-time at Anxiety New Zealand Trust where I have gained extensive experience working with anxiety presentations including Generalised Anxiety Disorder, OCD, social anxiety and panic disorder. I also have experience working with clients undergoing  life transitions at any life stage. I work with adolescents starting from the age of 13. My previous work experience in theatre and community project work, have given me the skills to connect with people of all ages, backgrounds and cultures. As a mother of two children aged 10 and 13, I am also very familiar with the pressures of juggling work, studies and family life. In addition to one-on-one sessions, I facilitate group sessions and workshops. When doing group work with communities and corporates, I  teach self-compassion and mindfulness techniques, so that participants can use these to better manage everyday stressors.
