I offer both individual and group psychotherapy in a confidential and safe setting. I specialise in using mindfulness and talking therapy to help with relationship issues, addictions, loss and trauma
When you are at a turning point in your life, talking to the right person can really make a difference. Psychotherapists have an empathic ear, trained to listen and understand. Just having the experience of being listened to and understood can alleviate some of your distress, which is the first level of talking therapy.
Going further, psychotherapy provides a unique space to open up your thinking about your life and relationships, a process that is transformative and enriching.
My primary modality is psychodynamic psychotherapy. How we relate in the therapy gives insights to other relationships in your life. The work is alive and present although you may make links back to your earliest relationships and how they colour your world today.
The other modalities I use are somatic psychotherapy and EMDR. Observing how the body and mind are responding in the present moment gives you the chance to notice the assumptions by which you may be confined. Somatic Psychotherapy has at its core concepts of gentleness, nonviolence, compassion and mindfulness. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) allows you to process traumatic memories that leave you stuck with unwanted strong reactions to everyday situations.
“Therapy is first about discovering. It’s about who you are and about what your deepest emotional attitudes are. It’s not just about who you think you are. It’s not opinion. It’s not something you can know with the intellect. It’s about who you are in the very heart of yourself. That’s the flavor of psychotherapy, discovering yourself, discovering your real attitudes toward the most important pieces of your life”
– Ron Kurtz
