Courtney Pito

Registered Counsellor

About Me

Kia ora! My name is Courtney and I am a registered counsellor who absolutely loves this mahi. Nō Ngāti Porou, Ngāti Kahungunu ki Wairoa me Ngāti Hine ahau.

I am a mum, a netball coach, and a lover of chocolate! I live on the North Shore and aside from my private work, I also work at a child and adolescent mental health clinic supporting youth and their whānau. Before this I worked as a counsellor at a number of different schools, including leading the counselling team at an Auckland secondary school.

I am a fully registered teacher, as this was the mahi I did prior to making the decision to retrain as a counsellor. I completed my Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling in 2016 and have been working as a counsellor ever since. I am a fully registered member of the NZ Association of Counsellors (NZAC).

I am currently working towards my Masters in Counselling which keeps me feeling super inspired in this important work.

My Approach

I work mostly from a Narrative Therapy approach. This approach centers people as the experts in their own lives, drawing on making more visible the strengths, skills, values and knowledge they already possess in order to navigate a way forward in dealing with problems. However I am also trained in other modalities, which means I can adapt my way of working to best suit you. Other modalities I incorporate into my mahi include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Mindfulness practices. I am super passionate about approaching this mahi in the spirit of curiosity, respect and collaboration.

It is an absolute privilege to meet with people and hear not only about the difficulties in their lives, but also their hopes and dreams for themselves and their whānau. People amaze me every day with their resilience and their insights into the world.

I look forward to meeting with you!
