Debbie Stewart

Counsellor, Narrative, Solution Focused, ACT and Strength Based

Welcome, thank you for taking the time to read my profile.

I have 12+  years experience working as a counsellor. Graduating from The University of Auckland, Unitec and the ‘University of life’.

I embarked on a career in counselling as a way to move forward with my life after an extremely challenging and traumatic time in my life.  I preferred to use this experience to help others to navigate through difficult situations.  In this sense, I am able to bring both professional and life knowledge into my practice to create meaningful change in people’s lives.

I have a collaborative approach utilising an eclectic range of tools and modalities tailored to individual needs and desired outcomes. I aim to provide a neutral, non judgemental, and confidential space. Often clients share a sense of relief having someone outside of their family to talk to.

In my free time I enjoy spending time with family and friends.  I am a keen gardener, cook and enjoy playing music with good friends.  The photo on this page is one my sister took when I was away on a family weekend with my Dad.  Although the ukulele is an instrument I enjoy, I also play accordion and keyboards.

I offer zoom, phone and in person sessions by appointment only. My availability is currently limited to Wednesdays and Fridays.

Areas of interest are supporting people during Times of Change or Life Transitions, Grief, Anxiety, Social Anxiety, Ageing, Loss of Direction, Motivation, Decision Making, Sandwich Generation, and Relationships.

Treatment Preferences

Narrative Therapy, Person Centred, Strength Based, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution Focused and Single Session work.
