Benefits of Psychotherapy

Much of our emotional wellbeing is shaped by our early life experiences. These experiences form unconscious patterns that influence how we see ourselves, relate to others, manage emotions, and cope with life’s challenges. In adulthood, these patterns can show up as persistent difficulties in relationships, struggles with self-worth, anxiety, existential distress, or feeling stuck in unhelpful cycles. Because they are often outside of our conscious awareness, they can be hard to identify and shift on our own. Psychotherapy offers a safe, non-judgmental space to bring these patterns into awareness—opening the door to meaningful insight, emotional healing, and lasting change.

The therapeutic relationship is unlike any other. It’s a space for deep personal reflection, held by a trained and compassionate listener. Psychotherapy has the potential to transform one’s life, and witnessing those transformations in my clients moves me deeply. At its heart, this work is about helping you find understanding of what is going on in your life, acceptance of yourself, your relationships, and your life story.

Some clients have said that psychotherapy has benefitted them through:

  • learning what really matters to them
  • a better understanding of what’s going on in themselves
  • an increased ability to manage difficult feelings
  • more compassion for themselves, and increased self-care
  • better able to cope with grief, change and loss
  • a greater sense of feeling true to themselves

What working together might look like

We would explore your experiences together at a pace that feels right for you. This includes your present struggles, as well as the broader context—your history, relationships, and ways of relating to the world. Whether we work short- or long-term depends on your needs and goals.

Q About Me

I grew up in West Auckland surrounded by the bush, the Waitakere hills and the wild West Coast and I have now returned to live in this beautiful area. Prior to training as a psychotherapist, I worked with Volunteer Service Abroad, and as a secondary teacher. Throughout, and though my relationships in my family I gained a wealth of experience. In my free time I enjoy beauty, peace, and the stillness in nature, which I find in particular when I garden, or walk in the bush.

All my life I have been interested in and concerned about the wellbeing of people. The process of helping clients express what they want to say, is important to me. So, for me as a psychotherapist, I strive to listen deeply to what is said in a session. I believe that talking to a qualified therapist who is skilled, interested, caring and a good listener can help clients understand and make fundamental change to aspects of their lives.

Pascal says “our heart has its reasons, that reason knows nothing of.” For me psychotherapy is about a joint journey, discovering what these reasons are that you might not really understand. Through listening and talking with you, I hope to help you understand more about yourself.
