My particular interest is in providing long term therapy for people ready to explore and understand themselves at a deeper level.
Unlike therapies which focus on learning skills or tools to manage symptoms, psychoanalytic psychotherapy makes use of a consistent therapeutic relationship to understand how your past experiences, relationships with others, and patterns you may not be aware of, affect how you feel and function today.
This allows you to choose how to relate to others and respond to life’s challenges rather than simply doing so reflexively. It can also help you to understand and process difficult and buried emotions; improve communication, boundaries and emotional closeness with others; and help you to be truer to yourself. Ultimately, people can be more present in the moment and with others.
Whilst this work does require longer term investment, the changes made are longer lasting and can continue growing after therapy.
Psychiatric Deprescribing
I also offer a dedicated psychiatric deprescribing service in tandem with mental health nursing support. Psychiatric deprescribing is the planned, supervised process of reducing or stopping medications that may be unnecessary, ineffective, or causing problems. There are many reasons why someone may choose to reduce or stop psychiatric medications – the medication is no longer needed or providing benefit; they have other means to manage their difficulties without medication; the medications are causing problematic side effects; the medication may not have been necessary in the first place.
General Psychiatry
I see adolescents and adults with a range of problems. Please note I do not offer ADHD or ASD assessments, or assessments for medico-legal purposes.
