Laine Lewis

and breathe counselling

I work full time in central Auckland. I am an experienced, master degree qualified Counsellor.

I provide:

  • relationship counselling
  • neurodiverse relationship counselling
  • ADHD counselling
  • women’s counselling

I work with adults, couples, young people and families, mostly in the areas related to emotional self-regulation, anxiety management, and relationships.

I am a counsellor because there is nothing more rewarding than seeing people discover their potential to live a life that is not based upon anxiety and fear.

Counselling for ADHD – individuals and couples

I am also an ADHD centric counsellor, working with people diagnosed or undiagnosed. My adult diagnosis of ADHD increased my passion for creating sessions that are neurodivergent focused, recognising how to help ADHD brains thrive in a flexible and relaxed session.

I use the Diagnostic Interview for ADHD in Adults (DIVA-5) to help clients understand the diagnosis and treatment pathways, as well as coaching for understanding ADHD.

I will work alongside you to create a tailored package of skill-based approaches for managing:

  • concentration
  • focus
  • goal setting
  • time management
  • relationships with family, friends and colleagues
  • emotional regulation
  • rejection sensitivity
  • work-related challenges
  • self-compassion

Neurodiverse couples counselling:

I especially appreciate neurodiverse couples work, and offer specialist ADHD couples therapy. ADHD relationship counselling is unique, and extends to families as well as couples, who are figuring out improved ways to communicate. My counselling services focus on proven techniques to foster understanding and collaboration, helping you thrive as a couple.

Counselling for Women

I love working with women, who often have their own unique challenges. Often it is about understanding the many identity and role changes that we experience … mother, wife, daughter.

I also work in a specialist role with women in the peri and menopausal part of life. Supporting women in a safe space as they transition through the physical and psychological challenges, to regain their self confidence and identity.

And, I work alongside young women struggling with issues relating to self esteem, body image, relationships and perfectionism. In this work, I always provide workable strategies to bring about emotional regulation.

Counselling for Young People

I specialise in working with young people and their families. Engaging families in the counselling is extremely effective in bringing changes for the whole family.

Many young people face difficult challenges in our fast paced, social media focused world. Helping young people manage these challenges by equipping them with strategies to face, as well as, handle these pressures, so that they can engage more positively with life, is what I do best.

My Counselling Approach

I am proudly person-centered, placing relationships and relatability at forefront of my practice. Tailoring counselling that focuses specifically on what works for YOU.

I draw upon a range of approaches including:

  • Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)
  • Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT)
  • Focused Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (FACT)
  • Family-focused Therapy
  • Sandtray therapy: this is helpful for clients who struggle to talk directly about their thoughts, feelings and problems.

Background and Experience

  • I have an extensive Psychology and teaching background (over 20 years)
  • I also facilitate social skills training and Lego therapy, for children and young people.
  • I am a facilitator for parenting workshops and exam ‘de’ stress workshops

Don’t wait too long to seek the support and tools we all need to navigate our lives in a way that is far more enriching, or just simply more content!

"Elaine possesses a unique and highly sophisticated sense of understanding and empathy which she constantly applies in and out of sessions with her clients. Consequently, Elaine is never shy of her end goal of finding a resolution for her clients' troubles as well as ultimately teaching them to do this for themselves, which I believe for some it would be one of the most important outcomes. Elaine clearly has a deep-rooted passion for putting others before her, this coupled with her extensive theoretical and practical knowledge of many important topics makes it easy for her to work effectively with people from all walks of life. Because of Elaine's honest sense of humility, she goes above and beyond to help those in need, often re-arranging her personal life in order to benefit her clients' needs. Elaine is a truly inspirational human with a heart of gold and anyone who she stumbles across is lucky to have her at their side through their journey."
