Persistent psychological problems are like black holes in the psyche, they steal our vitality and deplete our energy.
My work is to help you look at your patterns of response to life’s events. Mostly this is achieved by listening to your constructions about your life and the people you interact with, the beliefs you hold, the language you use, and the stories you tell.
It is my hope that you will leave me with an increased ability to recognise and regulate your emotional life and that you will find yourself more able to react to life’s events in a flexible and adaptive way. I hope that you will grow in compassion for yourself and others, and in so doing improve your sense of self worth and your personal relationships.
Finally, I hope that I will have grown in understanding and compassion as a result of our time together, and that we will have influenced each other in the ongoing journey of personal development.
I am an accredited Gestalt Therapist and also hold a Masters Degree in Counselling. I am a certified Yoga Teacher with Yoga Alliance. I have trained in the use of CBT and more recently have studied the contributions of neuroscience to our understanding of counselling and psychotherapy.
My approach to therapy is a synthesis of these disciplines. I am inclined towards an existential view of life, which can mean many things. For me it means that I see existence not so much as a destiny to be discovered but rather a life to be created by the force of our own volition and will.
I have been studying and working in the field of counselling services for twelve years. I work in private practice in Queenstown, New Zealand.
My previous employment history was in the Education sector in the UK, Australia and New Zealand, and in various training and management roles in the Oil and Gas sector of industry in the UK and Australia.
