Hello I’m Emma Heaney-Yeatts. I get it’s hard to find a counsellor you gel with, so to help you out I mainly work with women and couples, and my specialty therapies are EMDR (intensive and great for resolving old wounds or traumas), IDT (gentle drawing therapy), and IMAGO couples therapy.
Is empowering women to be the best version of themselves, including becoming and being a Mum. I also offer couples coaching because a strong relationship is a protective factor for personal well-being & parenting.
Many clients find that resolving wounds from the past enables them to feel more liberated to live their life. This is why I find IDT, EMDR therapy, and IMAGO couples therapy some of the most effective therapies for resolving common problems like depression, anxiety, trauma, and OCD.
EMDR is an amazing therapy to work through old wounds or traumas so that these memories no longer inhibit you in your daily living. This reprocessing therapy helps you to not be emotionally or physically triggered anymore (i.e. feel afraid, anxious, or depressed about things).
IDT is a powerful and magical way of uncovering and processing what’s going on for you. It uses crayons and paper to facilitate the therapeutic process, which involves accessing more right brain and less-conscious parts of yourself to discover new ways of being.
In couples therapy you will learn a new way of communicating, which is open and honest, caring and kind. The therapy I use is a well-founded and structured therapy that helps you feel safe and connected as a couple. This facilitates healthy change and new ways of behaving with each other.
I’m a sounding board for you to see new possibilities in living. Usually we will find a particular therapy you want to focus on. I offer a range of different therapies, including; Interactive Drawing Therapy (IDT), Couples Counselling, Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR), and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Client Centred Practice.
The tools and therapeutic interventions we use will align with your values, objectives and goals. Common topics that I work with include; trauma, loss, relationship difficulties, self-worth, resolving childhood wounds, worrying, feeling low, resolving stress, letting go of control, balancing work and life, assertiveness, and facing fears.
I was the Counselling Service Director for seven years at the Wellington charity ‘Post and Antenatal Distress Support Wellington’.
I have two young kids of my own, and my own experience of Postnatal Distress. I’ve also had the experience of having to juggle work, study, and life commitments, which I think many women find a challenge today.
I have completed EMDR Master Class and am in the final stages of becoming an accredited EMDR Therapist.
