My core training and counselling philosophy is based on Client-Centered and Narrative Therapy. Both these modalities see the client as experts in their own lives. They utilise the clients strengths and values to promote change. I am also trained in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (CBT and DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Attachment Based Counselling. These are integrated in my work with clients depending on the client’s needs and circumstances.
I enjoy working collaboratively with clients to discuss their difficulties and concerns, discover new possibilities and to explore the client’s preferences for the future. My approach is respectful and non-judgemental. I consider it a privilege to walk alongside my clients, listen to their stories, understand their unique circumstances and explore ways of moving towards their preferred lives.
I am originally from Brazil and have been living and working in New Zealand for over 20 years. Among other cultural traits, Brazilians are known for their sociable nature and their focus on hospitality (similar to Māori manaakitanga). That welcoming hospitality as well as warmth and care when dealing with clients are very important to me and always present in my counselling practice.
