Gaayathri Nair

Counsellor & Family Therapist

I am not currently accepting new ACC clients.

How do I work?

My approach to counselling is flexible, non judgemental and responsive. It centres the client in the process and focuses on us working together as a team to find ways of being that allows you to thrive. Working with me usually includes exercises and homework to be done between sessions in order to implement the skills and strategies we discuss.

What models do I use?

I am trained primarily in Narrative Therapy.  Narrative therapy is a non-judgmental and non-pathologising model.

“Narrative therapy seeks to be a respectful, non-blaming approach to counselling and community work, which centres people as the experts in their own lives. It views problems as separate from people and assumes people have many skills, competencies, beliefs, values, commitments and abilities that will assist them to reduce the influence of problems in their lives.” – The Dulwich Centre

Additionally, as a practitioner I have worked extensively with people who have experienced all forms of trauma, both acute and complex. As a result I have also incorporated best practice trauma therapies into my including:

  • Somatic/mindbody/body centred therapies
  • Self compassion focused therapy
  • Mindfulness practices

Who do I work with?

I work with individuals, couples, families and young people.  I work with adults, couples, families and young people. I do not work with children under the age of 12 without also working with the family.

I am experienced in working with people who (in no particular order):

  • Have experienced trauma of any kind
  • Are LGBTQIA+
  • Are coming to terms with their gender identity at any age or stage
  • Are in or contemplating alternative relationship structures (e.g. polyamory)
  • People who are experiencing depression; people who are experiencing any kind of anxiety including OCD
