Goldie Hamilton

Psychologist at Gold Tree Therapy

Kia ora!

My name is Goldie Hamilton, and I am a Registered Psychologist with a passion for providing tailored support and empowerment.

I offer a range of services at Gold Tree Therapy, including online therapy for adults across Aotearoa New Zealand, and supervision, coaching, and consulting. I welcome both self-referrals and clinician referrals.

My Background:

For over a decade I have had the privilege of supporting people on their journey toward better mental health and wellbeing. I have provided therapeutic support, facilitated community workshops, and delivered professional training and supervision for mental health workers. I also managed a 24/7 nationwide mental health helpline and coordinated the Helpline Collaboration Group Aotearoa NZ. In 2024, I registered with the New Zealand Psychologists Board and became a member of the New Zealand Psychological Society.

My most relevant qualifications include:

  • Master of Health Psychology (2018; University of Auckland)
  • Level 5 Micro-credential in Supervision Skills for Health and Social Service Professionals (2023; NZQA 4602)
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Psychological Practice (2025; Massey University)

My Practice:

I work with adults (age 18+) experiencing a range of challenges and therapy goals.

I have a special interest in:

  • anxiety
  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
  • depression
  • self-esteem
  • relationships
  • health conditions
  • life transitions
  • existential concerns

I take an integrative approach, drawing from a range of evidence-based interventions, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT). I also integrate elements of Psychodynamic Therapy and Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT) where appropriate.

I enjoy connecting with people from different cultures and backgrounds. I have lived in France, South Africa, England, and Israel, and have proactively developed my cultural competency since moving to Aotearoa New Zealand in 2007. I warmly welcome and have experience working with people from many walks of life and with diverse identities and lived experience.

I believe in providing support that is empowering and responsive to each person’s unique needs and strengths. My goal is to create a safe, welcoming space where clients can reflect without judgment and work toward positive change with compassionate guidance.

FAQs

Q Can therapy help me?

Therapy provides a safe and supportive space to explore mental health challenges, understand underlying issues, and work towards healing and resilience.

Therapy can help if you're feeling overwhelmed, withdrawn, relying on unhealthy coping strategies, or simply seeking positive change. If challenges are impacting your well-being or daily life - or if you just want to grow and thrive - therapy may be beneficial.

If you're unsure whether therapy is right for you, feel free to reach out - I'd be happy to explore how I can support you.

Q How do I know if you're the right person to support me?

Whether you're interested in therapy, supervision, coaching, or consulting, finding the right fit is important. The best way to know if I’m the right person to support you is to explore my website (www.goldtreetherapy.co.nz) and consider whether my experience and approach align with what you’re looking for.

As I offer online services, I am able to support clients residing anywhere in Aotearoa New Zealand.

You're welcome to email me any questions ([email protected]) or to book a free no-obligation brief video call to see if we may be a good match.

Q What is the frequency, number, and cost of therapy sessions?

The frequency and number of sessions depend on your goals, availability, budget, and whether you're seeking short-term or long-term support.

Many clients start to experience positive change within six sessions. However, achieving lasting progress often requires more than 20 sessions, and some find long-term therapy beneficial for continued growth and support.

Sessions are 50 minutes long and cost $210 (GST included).

For those who are eligible for funded therapy sessions, the required paperwork can be provided to support your application.

Q Do I need a referral to book a session?

I welcome self-referrals and clinician referrals.

Self-referral for therapy, supervision, or coaching:

Simply email [email protected] to arrange a free, confidential 15-minute video call with no obligation. Mention the service you are interested in (therapy, supervision, or coaching), and provide your full name, email address, and phone number. For therapy, if we decide to move forward, I’ll then send you a link to my secure client system to complete the therapy self-referral form.

Clinician referral for therapy:

Clinicians can email me to request that I contact their client or patient about therapy. A secure clinician referral form can also be provided on request. You may also request a brief, confidential phone call before or after making a referral, or let me know if there's any other way I can assist.

Please ensure the client has given consent to be contacted, and confirm this in your email. Include the client's contact details, and clarify that this is a clinician referral. Also, provide your full name, role, organisation, email address, and phone number.

Q What can I expect in the first therapy session?

Therapy is provided online.

In our first appointment, we will typically explore your background and experiences before discussing your therapy goals and preferences. This process may extend beyond the initial session to ensure a thoughtful approach to your needs.

We will also reflect on whether we are the right fit for working together. Finding a therapist who feels right for you is important, and if at any point you prefer to work with someone else, I can provide information on other therapists upon request.
