Reaching out for grief support can feel like a big step, especially when you’re exhausted, numb, overwhelmed, or unsure what you even need.
You may be facing bereavement, anticipatory grief, or a loss that isn’t always recognised, like the end of a relationship or friendship, health changes, shifting roles (becoming a caregiver or new parent), moving towns, or the loss of a beloved pet. Sometimes people come to counselling for anxiety, numbness, or feeling “not like themselves,” and only later realise grief is part of the picture — grief for a former self, an identity, or a chapter of life that has ended.
You might feel like life has changed and you can’t quite catch up, or like you’re carrying something heavy without a name.
I’m Hannah Wilkes, a Bachelor-qualified counsellor and NZAC member. I’m drawn to grief, loss, and end-of-life work, and I offer a calm, grounded space where you can bring whatever you’re carrying — sadness, anger, relief, confusion, or all of the above. My approach is person-centred and holistic, guided by Te Whare Tapa Whā and an understanding of layered grief , how new losses can stir older ones.
Counselling with me is gentle and conversational. There’s no pressure to have the right words, and no expectation to “move on.” Just a safe space to sit with what’s real, at your own pace.
I offer online sessions across New Zealand and engage in regular supervision and ongoing grief-focused training to support safe, ethical practice.
If you’d like a steady place to make sense of what you’re going through, and begin letting a little light back in, you’re warmly welcome to reach out.
Online sessions across NZ. Bookings via my online system. Evening, early morning, and weekend appointments available by request.
