I am a Registered Psychologist (Child and Family) with seven years experience working with tamariki (child), rangatahi (adolescents) and their families. I’ve worked in child and adolescent mental health, community agency, private practice, and care and protection. I previously worked as a qualified Early Childhood Teacher for over six years.
I provide a welcoming, warm and child-led environment for your child or young person to share their stories and partner with parents/caregivers to enhance your child’s well-being.
I have experience in providing assessment and therapeutic interventions to meet the needs of your tamariki or rangatahi.
As children/rangatahi live within a wider system of family, education and community, I work holistically with the system. I provide parenting support directly with parents/caregivers as needed. I can also provide support/consultation (e.g. attendance at meetings, phone calls) to school or other agencies involved with consent of parents/caregivers (at additional cost).
I draw from several evidence informed practices and therapeutic models including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT and Trauma-Informed CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) play therapy, Sandtray Therapy, Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), positive behaviour support, and developmental psychology.
Availability: I work Wednesday’s only.
Sandplay is an expressive, creative and sensory form of therapy for child and adults. Sandplay gives opportunities for individuals to communicate their feelings, experiences and internal states in a safe and protected therapeutic space. Sandplay therapy allows clients to express themselves non-verbally or difficult to verbalise feelings.
Sandplay therapy uses sand, water and minature figures in sandtrays across sessions to create a series of images. This facilitates dialogue between the conscious and unconscious thoughts, feelings, memories and instincts, brings healing and personal development.
Sandplay therapy was developed by Dora Klaff (Jungian Psychologist). It is based on the work of psychologist C.G Jung and Margaret Lowenfeld (Paediatrician). Dora Klaff also had an interest in Eastern Philosophy contributed to an deepened understanding of the creations made in the sand and the therapeutic attitude of the therapist.
Sandplay therapy is recognised globally and is an evidence based modality for children, adolescents and adults.
