Jess Stevens

Psychologist

Kia ora, my name is Jess.

I have ten years’ experience working as a counsellor and more recently have registered as a psychologist. Prior to my private practice I have worked in DHB, non-profit and tertiary education environments.

My approach in working with my clients is warm and collaborative, creating a safe space for you to be vulnerable. I draw upon a variety of evidence-based practices in my work, including narrative, solution-focused and cognitive behaviour therapies, depending on what goals you are bringing into the work. Most importantly I work with you as a whole person, not just the issue that you are bringing into therapy. We will work together to explore solutions to problems with your strengths, values, social context, and culture in mind.

My work tends to focus on the following areas:

  • Stress and burnout
  • Anxiety
  • Perfectionism
  • Mood issues
  • Life transitions
  • Relationships
  • Career and study issues
  • Trauma

I also work a great deal with clients who are LGBTQI+ and clients who are involved in creative work.
