About Me

Kia ora, I’m Jonathan (Meet Me – Brief Intro Video )

At the heart of my work is a strong foundation of trust. I support youths, adults, and couples from diverse backgrounds who may be feeling overwhelmed, stuck, anxious, low in mood, or uncertain about their next direction. They may be navigating anxiety, depression, stress, grief, trauma, relationship difficulties, or major life transitions. Often, they’ve been carrying these challenges on their own for a long time and are ready for support.

I believe counselling should be a space where you feel heard, understood, and accepted without judgment. Together, we create an environment where you can slow down, make sense of what’s happening, and move forward with greater clarity, confidence, and emotional resilience.

Originally from the United States, I bring over a decade of experience in counselling, helping professions, and personal development. I am currently completing my Master of Counselling through the University of Auckland and am a Provisional Member of the New Zealand Association of Counsellors (NZAC) with a current Annual Practising Certificate.

I offer counselling both in person from my Auckland office and online throughout New Zealand.

How I Work

My approach is person-centred, integrative, and tailored to your unique needs. No two people are the same, which is why I draw from a range of evidence-based and humanistic approaches rather than relying on a single model.

My work incorporates Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, Existential Therapy, Strength-Based practice, Te Whare Tapa Whā, and Gottman Method Couples Therapy.

Together, we combine practical tools with deeper reflection to help you better understand yourself, strengthen relationships, navigate challenges, clarify values, and create meaningful, lasting change.

What You Can Expect

Clients often describe my approach as warm, grounded, practical, and collaborative. While counselling can provide space to talk openly about life’s challenges, my goal is also to help you develop greater self-understanding, identify patterns that may no longer be serving you, and build the skills and confidence needed to move toward the life and relationships you want.

Reaching out can feel difficult, especially if you’re used to handling things on your own. You don’t have to navigate it alone. If you’re considering counselling, I welcome the opportunity to connect and explore whether we might be a good fit to work together.

I aim to make counselling feel approachable, honest, and useful, especially for people who may not normally see themselves as “therapy people.”

I work with youths, adults, and couples navigating relationship difficulties, anxiety, life transitions, depression, men’s mental health, stress, burnout, identity, and grief. My approach is warm, grounded, practical, and collaborative, with a focus on helping people feel genuinely heard without judgment.

Before becoming a counsellor, I worked across fitness, leadership, social work, and business roles, experiences that continue to shape my real-world and approachable style of therapy.

My approach is person-centred, holistic, and grounded in mutual collaboration. I integrate evidence-based approaches including CBT, ACT, mindfulness, and Gottman-informed couples therapy, tailoring support to each client’s goals and needs.

I offer both online counselling across New Zealand and in-person sessions in Howick, Auckland. I also offer a free 15-minute consultation to help determine whether we are the right fit.
