Freedom Therapy

Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.

Psychotherapy

I understand and respect how challenging it can be to take the first step toward seeking professional support when experiencing difficult times. It can feel uncomfortable and daunting initially. However, this is often short-lived and replaced by a sense of being supported to reflect on your experiences, challenges and relationships, and gain a more accepting and balanced view of your life and your relationships.

Background & Experience

My clinical background is in Psychodynamic psychotherapy with emphasis on Attachment theory and human development across the life span. Having an in-depth understanding of how our early beginnings impact our view of self, life, and relationships, assists me to support my clients toward developing empathy and compassion for themselves and others. I believe this can be an integral factor in the healing process and in attaining a sense of personal freedom.

In my 15+ years of practice I have worked in private practice and in the public sector, working therapeutically with children, adolescents, parents, and families from different cultures and walks of life. As a result of this experience, I am comfortable working across all ages and cultures.

Areas of Interest

  • trauma – historic, recent and relational
  • anxiety – separation anxiety, phobias, OCD
  • mood issues
  • relationship and interpersonal difficulties
  • life transitions
  • loss of direction

Therapeutic Approaches:

I often utilise an EMDR-informed approach in my practice with individuals. EMDR neutralises disturbing memories and enables them to be adaptively processed and stored to inform future experiences in an adaptive way. I have trained in the following EMDR protocols:

  • EMDR (Eye movement de-sensitisation reprocessing) – Adult & Child
  • R-TEP (recent episode protocol)
  • G-TEP (Group protocol)
  • Flash technique

EMDR can:

  • resolve trauma and PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder).
  • change ones negative beliefs about one self and improve self esteem.
  • relieve body disturbances, somatic symptoms and physiological responses from past disturbing life experiences.
  • help with depression and unresolved grief.
  • treat anxiety and phobias.

When working with parents or when a family based treatment is indicated, I often draw on the following models:

  • COS -P (Circle of security parenting) facilitator
  • MBT (Mentalisation based therapy)
  • Family therapy

Supervision

I offer supervision for Psychotherapists and clinicians working with children, teens, family.

Process

I believe that a comfortable therapeutic fit between client and therapist is essential for good therapeutic outcomes and therefore offer a free 15-minute phone consultation to new clients.
