Kerry Walmsley

Here to connect, listen and then walk alongside you through the tough stuff

About Me

Hi there, I’m Kerry. I am a qualified counsellor and member of the New Zealand Association of Counsellors.

My personal and professional journey has been shaped by change and resilience. From international sport, teaching, operations and events, advocacy, ecommerce, sports selection, mentoring, to now, where I truly feel I belong….counselling.

Alongside my professional life, my personal life has been rich, painful and eclectic, with people always at the heart of what I do.

More than anything, what has always mattered to me is people: hearing your story, connecting with your story, and helping you find your way forward, together. That’s why, when you sit down with me, it’s not about judgment, nor just scratching the surface. It’s about creating a space where you feel safe, heard, seen and supported to lean into the uncomfortable stuff, rediscover the strength and clarity you already carry within you but maybe can’t quite access right now.

FAQs

Q My approach

My approach is Person-Centred and holistic, adapting sessions to your individual needs, goals, and preferences. Together, we can explore all aspects of your wellbeing in a safe, supportive, and reflective space.

My focus is on helping you feel seen, heard, and understood while building self-awareness, resilience, trust, and empowerment. I aim to meet you where you are at, and tailor an approach that best fits your needs.

I have particular experience supporting adolescents and young adults while working with adults of all ages across diverse cultures, backgrounds, identities, and neurodivergence.

I draw from a range of evidence-based approaches, including:

• Person-Centred Therapy (PCT)
• Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
• Internal Family Systems (IFS)
• Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
• Narrative
• Creative and Expressive
• Experiential
• Somatic
• Solutions Focused

I also work in a trauma-informed way and have training in supporting addictions and behaviour change.

Through IFS-informed work, we can explore the different “parts” of your “Self”, the roles they play, why and how they play them and how they can better serve you.

I feel privileged to support people in developing insights and moving toward a more sustainable sense of well-being.
