The process of change does not have to be long and traumatic. My approach is dynamic, energising and most importantly, effective. My passion is to assist individuals, couples and families to transform themselves on a path toward their preferred future.
I specialise in the use of the Solution Focused approach. This is highly valuable among individuals, couples and groups who are seeking fast ways forward, effective outcomes, or immediate intervention with lasting consequences.
What I love about my job is the opportunity to experience the powerful characteristics being revealed in the people that I work with. I am consistently amazed by the ways people navigate difficult times in their lives. It is my job to ask questions that evoke this part of you.
In this way of working, we dedicate a whole lot of focus and attention describing in detail what will be different when your desired outcome becomes your reality. The first thing you are going to be asked is “What are your best hopes from our work together?” This means that you determine the outcome (the desired direction that you want your life to head in). My job is to then ask questions that illuminate this preferred future of yours.
I strive toward working in a way whereby I leave as little footprints as possible, i.e. doing more with less (more outcomes with fewer interventions) enabling you to get on with life in a way that only you know how.
My unique expertise lies in helping clients live their preferred lives despite the obstacles and challenges they face.
Guided by my training in Solution Focused Therapy, the energy of my work is focused on the description of clients aspirations, not an understanding of the clients problem. The focus of our session is directed toward what you want to achieve as opposed to what you want to leave behind.
It is often thought that the process of change requires the discovery of underlying issues and the unpacking of past painful experiences. The Solution Focused approach however does not have to be long and painful, rather it is dynamic, unique and most importantly effective.
I have experience working in both the public and private sector. Prior to establishing a private practice I worked at Family Works and an EAP provider in Christchurch. Within these jobs I have worked with a variety of populations with a variety of presenting issues, including depression, anxiety, grief, relationship difficulties, sleep-problems, drug and alcohol problems, sexual abuse, stress, and work-related concerns.
