Kiri Windross

Counsellor

I am a fully registered counsellor who works in Ellerslie, Auckland.  I work with individuals in-person and online, 18 years plus.

I am warm and open, offering a confidential and safe space to explore thoughts, feelings and life issues and work towards creating strategies to move forward.  I tailor my approach to your needs and also the number of sessions you can attend or can afford.

Our time together can be used in a number of ways, but  clients often come to counselling to….

….. talk through and make sense of what’s currently happening in life.

…. learn about how the brain and body are connected and what practical strategies you can learn to help support yourself emotionally.

….. understand and address events or situations that trigger strong emotional responses.

…. work through and make sense of the past or plan for the future.

I have trained in a variety of approaches and while I don’t work exclusively using these modalities, they have all influenced my approach.  These include Client-centred counselling, Cognitive Behavioural therapy(CBT),  Acceptance and Commitment Therapy(ACT), and Narrative approaches.  I also work using EMDR and have found this a very effective way to help people work through and decrease the impact of traumatic experiences on their lives. EMDR is recommended by the WHO(World Health Organisation) for the treatment of PTSD, but it is also very useful for working with any events that have been considered distressing.

I have experience working with clients from a wide range of age groups but currently focus on clients over 18 years old.  I am very comfortable working with clients from all sectors of the rainbow community, and clients from all ethnicities.

Common topics clients bring to counselling include anxiety, low mood, self-esteem, trauma, relationships, life transitions and navigating identity including sexual and gender identities.

I have a Masters of Counselling from the University of Auckland and have full membership with the New Zealand Association of Counsellors.  I also have a Graduate Diploma in Arts (psychology) which complements my counselling training.  I believe my life experiences around fertility, parenting, relationships, sexuality, depression and anxiety enables me to relate to many issues that clients bring to sessions.

I look forward to hearing from you.
