LEGO-Based Group Therapy for Social Emotional Development.
LEGO-Based therapy is an evidence based social skills program originally developed for Autistic people by Daniel Le-Goff, in the early 2000’s. Over the years it has become widely used and enjoyed with other populations, in other settings, contexts and countries. It has been successfully replicated across the world and fits well into the New Zealand and Australian context with some adaptations. It is an excellent therapy model for clinicians, educators, social workers and other practitioners with existing skills and knowledge in group theory, as well as those new to group therapy.
This approach can be used in many contexts, for all ages, from the age of 5 up. There are no limits with the application of this model, from leadership or team building workshops, to family and relationship counselling, to in-school support for social skill or communication skill building. It is deeply successful, and widely applicable. The program can be adapted to suit the needs of your context or whānau you are working with.
This group therapy model is a skill building approach, which coaches participants to work as a team using LEGO® in a structured way to achieve an outcome together, making it a great model to use when relational or interpersonal skill building and practice is required.
During this full day training participants will be provided step-by-step learning on how to set up and run successful groups in order to promote engagement and participation through a naturalistic setting. If you are new to social or therapeutic group work, or have been running groups for years with varying results, this training will help explore the core components of best practice for group therapy.
