Leslie Nylen

Counsellor

I am accepting new clients at the moment, but unfortunately, NOT ACC Sensitive Claims.

Are you needing a space to talk about what’s happening in your life? A place that is supportive, warm and non-judgemental? Let’s set up an appointment to talk.

I am an experienced counsellor who works with both youth (13+) and adults to support them through tough times.

My Specialty Areas Are

  • Trauma and abuse (family harm and sexual harm)
  • Stress
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • LGBTQIA+
  • Family dynamics
  • Interpersonal relationships
  • Grief and loss
  • Work/Life balance

Counselling Services

We all go through periods of difficulty in life where it would be beneficial to talk with someone neutral or outside the situation to gain more insight and understanding. Counselling is a place to talk things through, to learn skills and create positive change.

I offer sessions face to face, online or via phone.

Counselling Approach

I am a person centered counsellor, which just means that I am focused on working with my clients in a tailored way. I utilise a number of therapeutic strategies to support you in your goals. I work along side you to support you in finding your own solutions – not telling you how to fix your problems. I believe we all have the capacity for positive change and growth.

I create a warm and welcoming counselling environment that allows you to feel safe sharing about yourself. It’s not my place to judge, it is my place to listen, support and understand.

Background and Experience

I am originally from the US but have been in Aotearoa for almost 10 years. I have been a counsellor for the past 5 years working predominately with youth in a high school. I also have experience working with adults at an NGO that supports survivors of sexual harm. I am part of the LGBTQIA+/Rainbow community and enjoy working with other Rainbow folks.
