I’m Lou, a Queer, gender-fluid, neurodivergent and polyamorous person, counsellor, and parent residing in Pōneke.
My counselling practice is holistic and person-led, with a focus on your personal experiences and the aspects that make you who you are. My aim is to support you to feel empowered and confident so you can live your life with meaning. I understand that well-being means different things to different people, and believe counselling is just one step on your journey, where a range of choices and support encourage you toward meaningful change.
I predominantly support people who are exploring their sexuality, gender identity, non-monogamy, relationship challenges, and life transitions. I also provide tailored well-being plans for neurodiverse folks, support people experiencing burnout and substance use or addiction issues.
I adopt a ‘not one size fits all’ approach, using a range of modalities including storytelling, poetry, writing, acceptance and mindfulness techniques, brief intervention, and harm reduction strategies.
I have a gentle and reassuring presence, with an awareness of trauma responses and the nuances of neurodivergent experiences. I welcome suggestions and adjustments to ensure your comfort in our sessions. I hope that together, we create a space that feels like a sanctuary, where you feel safe to share with me at a pace that feels right for you.
I have a minimal waitlist and time for a 15-20 minute phone or video call, free of charge to see if we are a good fit. Please enquire using the ‘get in touch’ feature.
I look forward to working with you,
Mauri ora

I believe that mental health support should be accessible to all who need it, particularly for those from marginalised communities. I have a generous sliding scale payment option for students or people experiencing financial hardship and WINZ funding available.
- Generally, I have availability on Tuesday's and Thursday's for in person sessions.
- For those who work full-time and are unable to attend day or after work appointments I have some sessions reserved on Saturday's, at this stage these are online only.
- Yes, absolutely! I am flexible and skilled in providing support for people with all kinds of difficulties. I draw from my experience and use methods to best suit you.
- There are times where we might not be the best fit and I am happy to provide referrals to colleagues who can support you appropriately.
