I have worked with clients from young children to older adults, both male and female, of varying sexual orientation, religious beliefs, social background and ethnicities. I believe that my own ability to live with deep involvement in my own Chinese culture and in my adopted culture of New Zealand supports my ability to work with clients who have different areas of comfort and need.
I have a particular interest in working with couples and families who wish to rebuild their relationships and with people who have experienced family violence.
I work from a client-centred approach with evidence-based interventions drawn from Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) or Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution-focused Therapy, Family Therapy, Imago Couple Therapy and so on to adapt to each client’s individual needs.
I am originally from China and have been living in Auckland since 2002. Have worked at schools, universities, and community agencies since 2003 first as intern counsellor while I studied for my Masters degree and then a counsellor after graduation. I gained my full membership of New Zealand Association of Counsellors in 2008. I have extensive experience in providing individual, couple and family counselling, and also facilitating groups, including train the trainer, parenting programme and strong couple programme. Currently I am working part-time for a university as a counsellor and also seeing private clients face-to-face or through zoom and wechat.
