Oliver Gilbert

Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist

Qualifications and Registrations

I am interim-registered with the Psychotherapists Board of Aotearoa New Zealand (PBANZ), a member of the Centre for Lacanian Analysis (CLA), the New Zealand Association of Child and Adolescent Psychotherapists (NZACAP), and the NZ Forum of the School of Psychoanalysis of the Forums of the Lacanian Field.

I hold a Graduate Diploma in Psychotherapy Studies, from the Auckland University of Technology (AUT), where I am currently completing a Masters of Psychotherapy (AUT), and a four-year clinical training in psychoanalysis with the Centre for Lacanian Analysis. My educational training is underpinned by a professional commitment and passion for working with the concerns of children and adolescents. I additionally hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts, with Honours, from the University of Auckland.

Approach and Experience

I work from a psychoanalytic and psychodynamic perspective and have a deep understanding of child development, the impact of experience on the developing brain, and the internal world of the child. My therapeutic approach gently encourages the child to articulate thoughts and feelings, which may be difficult to express in other contexts. The unique environment of the clinic allows for the in-depth exploration of these feelings. I additionally work to support parents, families and carers to gain insight into their child’s behaviour and increase their understanding of the child’s perspective.

I have worked with a diverse range of young people and whānau in both private practice and child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS).
