Flex & Flourish as a HIP in Aotearoa

Professional Development for Health Improvement Practitioners

Flex & Flourish as a HIP in Aotearoa is a practical, NZ-context professional development course designed specifically for Health Improvement Practitioners (HIPs) working in primary care and community settings.

A Health Improvement Practitioner (HIP) is a registered health professional (commonly a psychologist, social worker, nurse, or occupational therapist) working within general practice teams to support people with brief, focused interventions around wellbeing, behaviour change, and mental health — often within 30-minute consultations and alongside medical care.

Created and facilitated by Alysha Simonsen, psychologist and one of Aotearoa’s early HIPs, this course is grounded in the realities of the role and the unique challenges of working in NZ primary care.

About the Course

Flex & Flourish focuses on helping HIPs:

  • Stay to time in 30-minute consultations
  • Re-rail sessions that feel stuck or derailed
  • Reduce pressure and burnout while still doing effective work
  • Use fACT-informed tools and frameworks in a practical, flexible way
