The voyage of discovery is not in seeking new landscapes
but in having new eyes
– Marcel Proust

“Psychotherapy at Apollo” is a group practice of nine clinicians. We are all registered, highly qualified health professionals with a depth of experience and a range of skills and expertise in psychotherapy, clinical psychology and counselling.

Our practice is situated in the Apollo Health and Wellness Centre, a medical health centre where there are many complementary health services available. We provide confidential counselling and assessment services, and both short-term and longer term psychotherapy for adults, couples, families, adolescents and children. We maintain consultation and referral links with many colleagues in the therapeutic community.

Each new referral is considered individually, in terms of presenting issues, so that a good ‘fit’ with an appropriate therapist can be offered. Each client is unique in their needs and preferences, and the ongoing therapeutic pathway evolves during consultation. The possibilities revolve around providing relief of distressing symptoms, and/or deeper work which addresses the issues underlying the symptoms, within the context of a healing professional relationship.

There are many and varied reasons that people find therapy helpful, but we find people often present with these sorts of issues:

  • depression
  • chronic or persistent feelings of anxiety
  • grief and loss
  • traumatic events
  • physical, sexual and emotional abuse
  • unsatisfying or destructive relationships
  • stressful and conflictual family lives
  • struggles with parenting including those with young children needing support
  • children and adolescents experiencing difficulties at home or at school
  • confusion and self-doubt
  • identity issues
  • pervasive feelings of meaninglessness or emptiness
  • compulsive behaviour including addictions and eating problems
  • immigration and adjustment problems

The following modalities are offered:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • Short term Supportive Psychological Counselling
  • Longer term Psychodynamic Psychotherapy
  • Mindfulness based interventions
  • Dialectical Behavioural Therapy Strategies (CBT)
  • Integrative Gestalt
  • Family Therapy
  • Couples Therapy
  • Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy

Supervision at Apollo

Our team has considerable experience in providing supervision and psychotherapy for mental health personnel and general practitioners, including specialised facilitation for health professionals requiring a Balint Group if requested. At times we also offer specialised psychotherapy groups to clients, depending on the need and interest levels in the community.
