Is your life being affected by depression or anxiety? Are you weighed down by loneliness or conflict in a relationship? Are you interested in finding a sense of purpose and joy in your life? Do you have a creative interest that is calling you?
I offer counselling that is practical, encouraging and centred on what is most important to you. I take the view that you have far more expertise in your own life than you may realise. I aim to get you reconnected to your own wisdom, so that you can discover your own best and most authentic ways forward. By understanding yourself and your own knowledge and resources you will be able to address problems in genuine ways that make a lasting difference in your life.
Therapy with me can be long or short term. You might find it helpful to have ongoing support over a difficult period, or you might find one or two sessions is enough to get back on track. Working out clear goals together at the beginning will help you see how you are making progress and I will check in with you regularly to make sure the therapy is useful to you.
I am a Narrative Therapist and my practice is strongly influenced by Buddhist psychology, and the practice of meditation and self-compassion. My work is focused on finding a safe foundation in the counselling relationship to explore possibilities for transformation that each person can believe in and own on their own terms.
I have been working with individuals and groups for over thirty years and have worked in a range of different settings with people from many different backgrounds. I am currently a counsellor at Harbour Hospice, where I work with people living with life-limiting illness and those who have been bereaved. I have also worked at OUTline as counsellor. I have done ongoing work with couples in private practice. In addition to my professional experience, I have invested many years in my own therapy and personal development, which shapes my work with people and allows me to be fully present and compassionate in the face of the issues people bring along to counselling.
