Let’s be honest, Counselling can feel scary for many reasons but I will work with you in a safe, supportive and non-judgemental way regarding your worries and struggles. I will help you to build insight into why you may be thinking or feeling a certain way, help you to gain coping skills to manage some of the stressful and over-whelming things life throws at you, and help you to build resilience which will assist you on your journey through life.
It is my hope that we can help you learn ways to reduce your symptoms of Anxiety and Depression, work through any relationships issues you may be facing, support you with any trauma or abuse you may have suffered, deal with stress in a healthier way and work together to improve things so you can live a happier, more meaningful and fulfilled life.
I work in a client-centered way. This means that I believe you are unique and are the expert in your own life. I also work in an eclectic way which means that I use different techniques. I may use Cognitive-Behaviour therapy (CBT), Drawing Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment work or Solution-Focused therapy – depending what you need at the time. We will identify goals for therapy and work to achieve these during our time together.
I have worked with young people, adolescents and adults from varying backgrounds, cultures and ethnicities. Some of my experiences have been at Youthline, HealthWest, Rape prevention education, Family Action (sexual harm and family violence), Massey University, EAP, and ACC therapy.
